September 17, 2014, Mr.Huasheng Qiu, the Deputy Director of International Cooperation Bureau, ChineseAcademy of Sciences (CAS), and Prof. Min Yang, the Deputy Director of ResearchCenter for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), CAS, met with Mr., the HonMinister of Water Supply & Drainage, Sri Lanka. he Hon Minister expressedwarm welcome to the visitors.

Mr. Qiu shortly introduced CAS and thebackground of the visit and also recalled the meeting when Prof. Chunli Bai visitedSri Lanka this April, met with H.E. President of Sri Lanka, Mr. MahindaRajapaksa, to discuss on promoting the cooperation between CAS and relatedinstitutions in Sri Lanka. Mr. Qiu and Prof.Yang discussed the potential ofcooperation in the field of water supply and sanitation, with a focus onproviding a technical solution to the CKDu problem. They visited severalvillages affected by the CKDu problem. In order to utilize the preciousopportunity of the state visit by President Xi Jinping to accelerate thecooperation between the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage and CAS, Mr. Qiuand Prof. Yang joined the CAS delegation led by Prof. Bai.

The CAS delegation expressed sincere thanksto the Hon Minister for his time and very important suggestions. They will makechanges to the MOU draft according to these suggestions, and include necessaryresources within CAS for the future cooperation.
