RCEES Organizes Donation of Water Quality Analytical Equipment for Sri Lanka

‍‍‍‍    In order to perform the MoU between Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), CAS, and National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) of Sri Lanka, promote the research program of CKDu intervention and etiology in Sri Lanka, and support Sri Lanka conducting national groundwater quality survey, RCEES, and Lihero Technology, one of the member enterprises of OBOR Environmental Technology and Industry Alliance, jointly donated a set of water quality analytical equipment for NWSDB in January 2020. The automatic multi-parameter water quality analytical instruments, value 2.8 million RMB yuan, could analysis 18 water quality parameters. To fulfill the commitment, during the Covid-19 outbreak of March, Lihero Technology overcame many difficulties to finish the manufacture of the instruments, and RCEES actively arranged the shipment, connecting Tianjin, Shanghai, and other customs, and finally under the strong support of Shanghai Customs, the equipment was loaded on 8 April and arrived at Columbo on 22 April, fulfilling the promise of arrival by the end of April.

    At present, Sri Lanka's side overcomes epidemic curfew and other adverse factors, has finished equipment customs clearance. The equipment arrives safely at China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Water Technology Research and Demonstration which located in Kandy, and will be used in the national groundwater quality survey. Recently, Dr. Priyath B Wickrama, General Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities of Sri Lanka, has addressed an appreciation letter for the donation activity organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and given high praise of RCEES’s remarkable contribution for improving the water quality and exercise to eradicate the CKDu in Sri Lanka.
