Counselor of Egyptian Embassy in China Visits RCEES to Promote China-Egypt S&T Collaboration

On November 18th, at the invitation of Professor Yang Min, Deputy Director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the delegation from the Bureau for Cultural, Educational, and Scientific Affairs of the Egyptian Embassy in China, led by Counselor Omayma Ghanem Zaidan visited RCEES. Researchers and representatives from the North China Electric Power University, the Lihero Technology (Hunan) Co., Ltd. and RCEES participated in the exchange meeting.

The meeting was hosted by Dr. Liu Juan, Director of the International Cooperation Office of RCEES. On behalf of the Chinese side, Professor Xiao Feng introduced the recent progresses and future plans of China-Egypt cooperation. The two sides then conducted an in-depth discussion on how to further promote the protection of water resources on the Nile, how to jointly apply for projects and so forth. Mr. Nie Bo, General Manager of Lihero Technology said the company would be ready to fully support the cooperation between RCEES and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other organizations in Egypt, and further willing to play roles in the equipment donation and follow-up supporting services.

Professor Omayma said it was her second visit to RCEES following her first visit in June. The Egyptian side attaches great importance to the cooperation with Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and hopes to receive strong support from RCEES in such areas as ecological environmental protection research and senior professional training & education. The Egyptian Embassy in China will make every effort to facilitate the signing of bilateral or trilateral cooperation agreements between RCEES and the relevant Egyptian authorities in the near future.

In summary, Professor Yang Min stated that Egypt is a large African country with rapid economic development and an increasing population, which puts an increasing pressure on water resources and water environment. RCEES, CAS is willing to support Egyptian institutions in the construction of the Nile River water quality monitoring capacity, and make positive contributions to the environmental protection and sustainable development of Egypt.
