On November 18, 2021, Prof. Yang Min, Deputy Director General of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES, CAS), had a video conference with Mr. A.C.M. Nafeel, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply of Sri Lanka, and Mr. H. Jayathilake, Director General of National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), to discuss the transfer of the Electro Dialysis Reversal (EDR) technology to Sri Lanka for the purification of groundwater in the CKDu affected areas. The demonstration project result shows that the EDR technology could remove the harmful ions from groundwater with a tolerable cost, which has attracted the attentions of Sri Lankan government. They propose to jointly establish an EDR equipment production plant with the Chinese side to meet the demand of Sri Lanka. The two sides agreed to make a plan to promote the technology jointly.
